Ability to add guidance text to specific items

Some of my items have subtle buy important differences that require extra guidance to the customer when they are choosing their item. For example, we accept “Item A gen 2” but not “Item A gen 1”. More often than not, the customer will not know what gen their item is or even that there are multiple gens of their item. I’d like the ability to associate some type of guidance note with the item in the catalog. This note is then displayed when someone selects that item in the widget. This would save me shipping costs and create a much better customer experience.
